An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe
Cleveland – The Garfield Trail along with James A. Garfield Alliance (a committee of The Garfield Trail) is thrilled to announce the popular “An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe” is returning this September. The nation’s foremost Poe presenter, David Keltz, will appear as Edgar Allan Poe, one of President and Mrs. James A. Garfield’s favorite fiction author. Keltz, has appeared at the James A. Garfield National Historic Site since 2010. These performances always sell out.
The performance will be held Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Sept. 24 - Sept. 26th with shows at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. The shows at 6 p.m. will feature the epic poem, The Raven, and the story Pit and Pendulum. The 8 p.m. show will also feature The Raven and Hop-Frog.
Cost is $40.00 person per show. Ticket includes refreshments and an open house tour of the Garfield home. The event is open to the general public, please RSVP at www.garfieldtrail.org/event-list. Tickets can be purchased on-line starting Aug. 15, 2026.
The Garfield Trail, organized to promote the four major sites in northeast Ohio affiliated with the 20th U.S. President James A. Garfield: Moreland Hills (birth site), Hiram College (education), the James A. Garfield National Historic Site (Mentor farm), and Lake View Cemetery (final resting place), is a 501 (c) 3 organization that provides philanthropic support to, as well as increased awareness of, the four “cradle to grave” sites.
The founders of the group are Tim Garfield (great-great-grandson of President James A. Garfield), Carla Vondrak Garfield, Debbie Weinkamer, and Chris Weinkamer, with assistance of
attorney Josh Strickland of Dworken & Bernstein, Co., L.P.A. in Painesville, Ohio. The Board of Trustees includes representatives from the four sites.
