BEHIND THE BEAT: Mentor Rocks with In The End
Original Article found here
Linkin Park is among both the best-selling bands of the 21st century since they exploded onto the scene with their breakthrough album “Hybrid Theory”. With hits including “Numb”, “Crawling”, “One Step Closer”, “In the End”, and more, their music has provided soundtrack of a generation of fans worldwide.
In The End celebrates the legacy of Linkin Park by delivering a powerful and emotional concert experience that resonates with long-time fans and newcomers alike. This LA-based international touring tribute is of industry musicians and has performed on major stages, including The Tonight Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Coachella, and Lollapalooza.
The band will take the stage at Mentor Rocks on June 10, 2025.
We reached out to guitarist Yohai Portal to tell us a little more about the band and give us an idea of what we could expect. Here’s what he had to say:
What inspired you to start this band?
We started this tribute not just to play the songs but to honor the music, message, and legacy that Linkin Park gave us all. Their sound shaped our lives, and this is our way of keeping that energy alive for every fan who still feels it across every generation.
How long has the band been together?
We started the band in 2018, about a year after Chester passed, and we’ve been going strong ever since. His voice and message meant everything to us, and playing this music live is our way of keeping that spirit going.
What is your favorite on-stage moment?
We always hand the mic over to the crowd for a chorus during one of the songs, and those moments? Pure electricity. There’s nothing like hearing a whole audience scream the lyrics together.
What’s your favorite Linkin Park song to perform?
I’m the guitar player, so for me, it’s probably One Step Closer. Those riffs just hit different. They rock so hard and it’s always one of the peak moments of the show.
What are you looking forward to at your Mentor Rocks date?
It’s our first time playing Mentor Rocks, and I’ve heard you guys rock, so I’m stoked and can’t wait to feel Mentor’s energy.
What can fans expect from you?
We always give 110% on stage. We never take these chances to play this music for granted, so we do everything we can to make sure the crowd gets the best experience possible.
Do you have another side gig?
I’ve got a personal side project called Greenblack. I’m fronting it and handling most of the writing. It’s a heavy metal vibe, influenced by the bands that shaped me: Metallica, Dream Theater, Pantera, Pink Floyd, and even Infected Mushroom. So far, I’ve released four songs, and I’m planning to dive back into it later this year and (hopefully!) put out more music soon.
Any other message for the fans?
Just a reminder we’re not here to replicate. We’re here to celebrate the music of Linkin Park the sound we all grew up on and still feel deep in our bones. And just as importantly, we’re here to keep the conversation around mental health front and center because that message matters just as much as the music.
On that note, it’s worth mentioning that supporting mental health awareness is important to the band. In The End have partnered with mental health non-profit organizations such as Change Direction, To Write Love On Her Arms, and more. Their goal is to provide financial support to these organizations, as well as provide global platforms to openly discuss the issues surrounding mental health awareness.
Thanks to Yohai for taking the time to talk to us. We’re looking forward to the show. For more information on this show as well as other Mentor Rocks performances, visit www.mentorrocks.info.
