Bug Day: Wondrous World of Wings

Buzz, flutter or glide on over to Penitentiary Glen Reservation for our annual celebration of all things buggy! Whether you're an insect enthusiast or simply looking for a fun family outing, Bug Day features a full lineup of bug-themed activities, exhibits and experiences for curious minds of all ages.
“Insects are one of the largest groups of living things on the planet, and the majority of them can fly,” explains Kristin Snider, Nature Center Facility Manager. “From butterflies and bees to mosquitos and beyond, Bug Day is a fun way for families to learn about winged insects through hands-on activities, up-close encounters and plenty of discovery.”
Attendees can enjoy Bug Bingo, sustainable crafts, scavenger hunts and wing-themed activities, along with live insect encounters and carefully mounted insect displays. Guests will also have opportunities to observe insects up close and learn about their unique characteristics and behaviors.
Interactive animal ambassador presentations from the Lake Metroparks Kevin P. Clinton Wildlife Center will take place throughout the day, and guests can capture memories at themed photo stations. Children who participate in five or more activities can earn their very own “Master of Bugology” degree.
Miniature train rides will also be offered courtesy of the Lake Shore Live Steamers, weather permitting. For safety reasons, pregnant women are not permitted to ride, and children must sit on their own (no lap sitting allowed).
Bug Day is presented by Renewal by Andersen, Sylvan Learning of Mentor and University School. Admission is free and no registration is needed. For details, visit https://goto.lakemetroparks.com/bugday.
