Painesville Township will be adding food trucks and an expanded children’s play area to this year’s Family Fun Day.

The free, annual festival will also include other family activities, representatives from community organizations and more when it runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 23. It will take place at the Lake County History Center, 415 Riverside Drive.

Township Administrator Hollie Bartone said that the event is open to anyone.

“We aim to provide a fun-filled family experience that people can come to and just enjoy the day,” Bartone said. “There’s no charge to attend and all of the activities provided by the township are free, including parking. Food will be available for purchase from the vendors.”

She said that the activities will include rocketship car rides, a foam party, a mechanical bull, inflatables and Cartwheel Connection, described on its website as a “mobile ‘gym on wheels'” for children from ages 18 months to 8 years. There will also be new toys for younger children at the sand pit play area.

Scheduled events include Jungle Bob shows at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and magic shows at 1, 2 and 3 p.m., Bartone said. A University Hospitals medical flight craft will land during the event.

A barn will have Chinese auction baskets donated by local businesses and township employees, she said. The township will use the funds raised at the auction for next year’s Family Fun Day.

Bartone added that there will also be a kids’ science, technology, engineering and mathematics activity table from Lake Erie College. Other groups represented at the event will include the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council, Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Sub Zero Mission.

The food truck options will include the Vivander Cookie Mobile, Off the Griddle, Moose’s Tornado Potato and Cloud Confection cotton candy, she said.

“The Painesville Township trustees host events like this to give back to the community they serve,” Bartone said. “This is one small way they say thank you to the people of Painesville Township.”
