Mentor to unveil statue of President Garfield on July 3

The City of Mentor announced it will unveil a statue of President James A. Garfield at 6 p.m. July 3 at the Mentor Municipal Center.
The slightly larger-than-life figure is being designed and built by artist Alan Cottrill whose body of work includes over 400 pieces, including that of Thomas Edison in Statuary Hall at the US Capitol Building, according to a news release.
A short program will be followed by a free community picnic on the grounds of the Mentor Civic Amphitheater.
Additional information will be posted as it becomes available, according to the release.
