Intern Diaries: A Day in the Life with Grace York
Being an intern is such an amazing and valuable experience. You’re able to make connections with new people, learn real world skills to push you forward in your career, and even have a little fun along the way! Here’s a little insight into what a day in my life is like as a Tour Lake County intern. Where should we start?
The Morning ~
Picture it… 9:30 am, an office, a desk, and an intern (that’s me)!
Usually, my mornings start off the same. I check my calendar, look at the inboxes, and plan for the day ahead. Mondays and Tuesdays are our meeting days, where we plan the content for the week, discuss upcoming events, and make sure we’re all on the same page.
Sometimes I start off working on our blog articles; I’ll add different articles that our team finds, or I’ll write my own! I really enjoy writing my own blogs and getting creative with the layouts/phrases to make each one unique. I’ve worked on itinerary blogs, informational blogs, and I share a series with the other lovely intern here called “The Adventures of Sam and Grace”! You should totally check it out 😉. Other times, I start off creating posts for our members; I select the post format, add in the imagery I need, and make any edits to ensure it aligns with our branding. I’ve learned that reels are my favorite kinds of posts to create, even though they take more time to put together. I will say, the hardest part is choosing the right audio to pair with it!
The Afternoon ~
The afternoon is when we will try to plan for any content shoots, which can be anything from filming videos at the wineries, to highlighting new menu items at local restaurants, and even getting pictures of a newly opened hotel. I’ve been to so many places over the past few months, and the process of getting content has gotten much more comfortable for me the more I’ve done it. But trust me, taking loads of picture and videos burns your battery quickly!
I find that it helps to do a little research before you go out to grab content: learn about the business, do some scrolling and see what types of posts are doing well for that type of business, and write a few notes down to take with you. I find that especially if I’m going to more than one place that day, this helps keep my thoughts organized and visualize what I need to make the most out of my trip.
Here’s a few things I’ve learned about getting content.
Sunlight is your best friend - if you can find it, use it.
Grab a buddy to help you, if you can.
Take more than 1 picture of a certain object/space - sometimes blurriness just comes out of nowhere.
Some people will stare at you. It’s ok.
Small edits directly from your phone can make an image pop.

The Evening ~
This is when a good portion of our events happen! For us, going to an event means setting up a table, placing out all of our goodies, and talking to the people that come up to us about all things Lake County. You may have even seen me already! I’ve tabled at some Mentor Rocks Concerts, the Kirtland Strawberry Festival, Cleveland Pops at Fine Arts, and at the Mentor Lagoons for the Lake Erie Sand Sculpture Tour!
Tabling is very entertaining for me! I love getting to know the people who show up and hearing their stories. I love seeing people light up when we tell them about an upcoming event or new place to visit that they’ve never heard of before. I also love seeing the kiddos run up and get so excited about our stickers and sunglasses, which they put on immediately after grabbing them. Overall, it’s a great experience! If I could only reach to help put up the tent, it would be perfect…
And just like that, the day is already over! It sure did go by fast.
I wonder what tomorrow will bring 😊
