MENTOR, Ohio -- Visitors to the Mentor Lagoons Nature Preserve will encounter a temporary trail closure beginning Friday as crews assemble the city’s long-awaited observation tower overlooking Mentor Marsh.
The preserve’s main trail will be closed July 31 through Aug. 16 while construction crews erect the new 95-foot observation tower, according to the city of Mentor.
The tower is being built on the rim of Mentor Marsh, about 1,000 feet north of the main trailhead. Once complete, it will feature a 25-foot-by-25-foot viewing deck offering panoramic views of the marsh, surrounding uplands and Lake Erie. The structure also will include an elevated viewing platform that’s ADA-accessible.
