Willowick Mayor Michael Vanni recently reported the city met with Lake Metroparks to further discuss plans in store for Lakefront Lodge.

Vanni said Lake Metroparks has submitted plans to City Engineer Tim McLaughlin for review.

Last year, Willowick signed a new contract with Lake Metroparks for the Lakefront Lodge. As part of the new 20-year agreement, the city will be responsible for adding a new paved parking lot while Lake Metroparks will continue to oversee the use of the park.

Once the parking lot is completed, a picnic shelter will be constructed, as well as a flush restroom, renovations to the lodge deck and additional paved walking paths.

“They are going to do more on the (lodge) deck than we thought and there will be outlets on there as well,” Vanni said. “They are also going to be putting in new swings.”

Vanni said Lake Metroparks is also going above and beyond with the lodge building at the park, located at 30525 Lakeshore Blvd. A new roof, HVAC system and an expanded kitchen are planned for the lodge.

“We think it’s going to spur more economic growth for the businesses,” Vanni said.

Meanwhile, the Lake County Visitor’s Bureau will be featuring the city this summer.

“They do a great job promoting the county,” Vanni said. “They are going to build a sand sculpture that will sit here from June until September. They will also bring the big yellow chairs and help promote what is going on here.” “That facility fills up really quickly,” he said. “This will give the residents another chance to get another venue at the lake.”
