Free cake, music and more at Painesville’s 225th birthday bash

PAINESVILLE, Ohio — The city of Painesville will celebrate its 225th birthday with a free, family-friendly event on Saturday, Sept. 6 around Painesville Square, officials announced Friday.

The festivities run from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., featuring a lineup of entertainment, local vendors and community organizations.

Highlights include:

  • A kids’ zone with inflatables, face painting and an art tent.

  • Appearances by local businesses—more than 50 are expected to participate.

  • Food offerings from trucks such as F.A.T.S. to Go, Fungry, Chick‑fil‑A, Delish Mobile Kitchen and Sweet Doughlights, along with other treats like cotton candy, fresh‑pressed juice, and more refreshments.

Entertainment schedule:

  • 4 p.m.: National Anthem performed by the Lake Youth Community Choir.

  • 5 p.m.: Folk dancing by HOLA Ohio Folkloric Dancers.

  • 6 p.m.: Painesville Women’s Chorus leads “Happy Birthday” and the first 300 attendees receive free birthday cake from Gartman Model’s Bakery, the city’s oldest bakery.

Extras & logistics

Attendees can enjoy yard games, a “Touch‑a‑Truck” feature with city departments, and a chance to meet a representative in character as the city’s founder, General Edward Paine.

To accommodate the event, Park Place around Painesville Square will be closed to traffic and parking from noon to 10 p.m. on Sept. 6. Free parking is available in several nearby lots, with a reminder that Lake Erie College’s dormitory lot is reserved for students.

Community participation

Local groups and organizations showing their support include the Downtown Painesville Organization, Lake County YMCA, Morley Library, Painesville Railroad Museum, Lake Erie College, Painesville City Schools, and more.

City officials encourage residents and visitors to join in the celebration of Painesville’s history and community spirit.
