The Lake County History Center is decorated for the holiday season and is inviting the public to visit at a series of events scheduled over the next couple weeks.

Christmas trees, wreaths, figurines and other decorations lined many of the museum’s exhibit rooms, while festive tablecloths and decorations could be seen throughout the Heritage Hall during a Dec. 3 visit. Center Director Lisa Lewins said that decoration work started in October.

The center is kicking off its holiday season by providing a free Home for the Holidays open house through Dec. 7. Each day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., visitors can get free tours, purchase food, enter in basket raffles and participate in free kids craft tables.

“If people have not come to the history center before, now is the time to come and see it, because it is all decked out for Christmas,” said Sandy Dennis, who was helping to decorate the center on Dec. 3. “And even if they’ve been here before, it’s different, it is beautiful and they will be thrilled and put into the holiday spirit.

“And it’s free,” Dennis added. “Donations are welcome, but it’s free, come look and see.”
The center is also planning a Scrumptious Christmas Tea Party at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 11. Admission for that event will be $31 for members and $36 for non-members, according to the center website.

The website described the tea as “a festive tea party full of delicious treats and holiday cheer.” The museum will also be open for tours and provide information on the history of Christmas bells and handbell choirs.

“Come dressed in your festive attire and be prepared for a jolly good time,” the website said. “Don’t miss out on this opportunity to celebrate the holiday season with friends and family.”

The center’s Breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Claus will run on Dec. 13 and 14, with breakfasts at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. each day. The website said that the Clauses will also take photos and accept Christmas wishes.

Breakfast tickets are $20 for adults, $12 for children ages 4-10 and free for children 3 and under.

Eventbrite registration links for the tea and the breakfast can be found at lakehistorycenter.org/visit-museum. Registration for the tea closes Dec. 9. Registration was full for the Dec. 13 breakfasts as of publication time, while registration for the Dec. 14 breakfasts was set to close on Dec. 14.

The museum said that visitors can also schedule group visits from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays through Fridays by calling 440-639-2945. Guided tours are $8 a person while self-tours are free, according to the website.

The history center is located at 415 Riverside Drive in Painesville Township. More information can be found at lakehistorycenter.org.
