Willoughby Hills has added a couple of new areas to this year’s upcoming Music Fest.

The city will be hosting the event on Aug. 16 from 1 to 9 p.m. at the Community Center, located at 35400 Chardon Road.

A dunk tank and TeenTopia will be the new features, according to Mayor Chris Hallum.

“From 2 to 5 p.m., you’ll have a shot at dunking a city or school official,” he said. “School of Innovation’s Principal (Michael) Bonick is first up, so kids, for $1 per ball — they’ll have a chance to dunk their principal.”

The other new addition this year, TeenTopia, will have a variety of fun games such as mini golf and life size pong.

“This area is being sponsored by Onyx Gym, who will host some fun challenges in which the teens may compete,” Hallum said.

In 2022, the city kicked off Music Fest, formerly called Rock N Roll Day, in August by remembering Michael Stanley, who lived in the city for many years. The event has since been renamed to Music Fest to widen the musical genres.

This year, the city will have two stages in order to keep the live music going, Hallum said. The event will kick off at 1 p.m. with a performance by twirlers from Showstoppers.

Following the twirlers, the music will commence. This year’s band line up consists of High Horse from 1:30 to 3 p.m., The BeSides from 3 to 4:30 p.m., Sumrada from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Rough Cut from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and the day will wrap up with a performance by Pieces of Eight from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

The Willoughby Hills Youth Sports League will be running the beer tent where not only beer, but other adult beverages may be purchased, according to Hallum.

“Our headline sponsor, Mario Fazios, will be there serving up their fantastic cuisine along with several food trucks to provide a wide variety of tasty snacks and meals,” he said.

Other event sponsors will be at the event to answer questions and to share their products, and services.

“We encourage to stop by their tents to see what they have to offer,” Hallum said. “Without their sponsorship, this free event would not be possible.”

The city is still looking for volunteers to help with the various activities going on throughout the day of the event. For those interested in donating their time to help out, they may visit the following link to sign up:

The city is also working to get the word out about Music Fest in neighborhoods and main roads. For those who have a good location for an event sign, they may contact the city’s communications supervisor via email at kmehollin@willoughbyhillsohio.gov. They may also visit the city’s Facebook page, click on “more,” scroll to “events” and share.
