Painesville’s summer concerts are getting a new name and a new home this year.

The city’s Concerts at the River series is scheduled to run every Wednesday from June 10 to July 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. The series will take place at the city’s new amphitheater at 33 Mill St., located next to the Grand River and the entrance to Kiwanis Recreation Park.

“This amphitheater was designed to bring people together,” said City Manager Doug Lewis in a city news release. “Launching our first concert season here is an exciting milestone for the city, and we’re looking forward to welcoming residents and visitors for a summer of great music in Painesville.”

The city said that this year’s schedule is:

• June 10: Rock the House Live, a cover band that performs music including Top 40, Motown, rock and pop

• June 17: Revolution Pie, a Beatles tribute

• June 24: Chardon Polka Band

• July 1: Rumours, a Fleetwood Mac tribute, also including music from the solo careers of Fleetwood Mac members

• July 8: Audiophile, a pop-rock cover band with music from the 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s

• July 15: Carlos Jones and the P.L.U.S. Band, a reggae band

• July 22: That ‘80s Band

• July 29: Country Redford, a modern country cover band.

The city plans to use Wednesdays in August as make-up days for concerts that are canceled because of weather. “We’re looking to bring the local community together and bring residents and non-residents to Painesville to see what the beautiful park looks like and to listen to some good music,” said Painesville Recreation Supervisor Justin Gollin. “Our series has always received a positive response from residents, but we think that this will really be a big bang and have really good entertainment down there.”

The amphitheater will include 250 built-in seats for the first season, along with space for residents to bring blankets and sit on the lawn, said city Public Information Officer Mike Cook.

Each concert will include a savory food truck and a dessert truck, Gollin said. No outside alcohol will be permitted.

He added that there are plans for an amphitheater ribbon-cutting before the first concert. There will also be four food trucks at that event.

Free parking will be available at the amphitheater and nearby park, Gollin said. Visitors can also park along nearby Main Street.

The city is currently accepting votes for the new amphitheater’s name. Options are the Grand River Stage, the House of Paine, the Monarch Amphitheater, the Painesville Community Amphitheater and the Steelhead Alley Stage.

Voting is open to residents until the end of April 2. Each resident can vote once. More information is available at painesville.com.

“The soon-to-be-named amphitheater is going to be an amazing place for residents and visitors to gather for concerts this summer,” Cook said. “We are already looking at other events at the facility in the future, including dance events, guest speakers, movies, theatrical performances and graduations.”
