People will get good exercise by participating in a new activity in Fairport Harbor Village that’s slated on the same day as the Grinch comes to town for an annual celebration.
The inaugural WhoVillage Holiday Dash is taking place at 9 a.m. Dec. 6. This 2-mile timed race and family fun run and walk is presented by the nonprofit Fairport Harbor Opportunity Development Corporation.
“This festive event is perfect for runners, walkers, families, friends and fur babies who want a unique and healthy way to celebrate the season,” the corporation stated in a news release.
The dash will take participants through the heart of Fairport Harbor, “highlighting local landmarks, holiday decorations, and community spirit,” according to information on the corporation’s website.
Shortly after the race, the 2025 Harbor Holiday and a Day with the Grinch will kick off, with activities at locations throughout the village. Fairport Harbor Heritage Foundation sponsors this event.
Fairport Harbor Opportunity Development Corporation, in its news release, stated that the WhoVillage Holiday Dash is “designed to positively contribute to the well-established Harbor Holiday celebration in Fairport Harbor.”
Registration for the dash is $25 and includes a finish medal and race day T-shirt. However, runners and walkers must register two weeks in advance to receive the shirt. Sign-ups can be completed at: register.chronotrack.com/r/88959.
The race begins and ends at Memorial Park, 301 Third St.
Race day check-in and day-of registrations will be conducted at the park from 8 to 8:45 a.m., and the dash begins at 9. Parking spaces for vehicles can be found throughout the village.
Other specific questions about the race can be asked by sending an email to holidaydash@fhodc.org.
Participants are encouraged to dress in their best Whoville attire, from the Grinch to Cindy-Lou Who, or “any holiday creation that turns heads and spreads smiles,” the release stated.
The WhoVillage Holiday Dash will award $500 for the Best in Who costume and $200 to the Best Max Dog “to celebrate the most paws-itively festive pup in the race,” according to the release.
Businesses and organizations also are invited to become financial sponsors of the WhoVillage Holiday Dash.
“Sponsorships will help make Fairport Harbor a more vibrant community through beautification efforts,” the release stated.
Corporation President Christine Bacnik said she’s excited about the first WhoVillage Holiday Dash.
“Beyond fundraising, the dash will bring neighbors and friends, new and old, together to celebrate the joy, spirit, and uniqueness of Fairport Harbor during the holiday season,” she said. “This event will showcase that #LifeIsBetterInABeachTown any time of the year.”
