A Guy’s Weekend of Fishing, Hiking and Tacos Galore

Guys & Golf

What golfer wouldn’t want to play a nationally-recognized and award-winning golf course? And to play one for less than $100? Seriously?! Manakiki Golf Course in Willoughby Hills (only about 20 minutes from Downtown Cleveland) has won numerous awards for being one of the best public golf courses in the country; most recently being named one of Golf Pass’s top 100 courses in the country to play for under $100. Manakiki has also been recognized by GOLF Magazine as one of the top 30 Best Municipal Courses in the country. The Donald Ross designed course offers a challenging round of golf in a well-maintained, picturesque setting featuring maple-lined fairways, water features and beautiful tee shots. Relax after your round in the historic clubhouse which was formerly a summer estate for prominent Clevelander Howard Hanna.

Boys of Summer

A trip to the ballpark on a beautiful summer evening is hard to beat. Grab your buddies and head over to Classic Auto Group Park in Eastlake to catch the Lake County Captains, Cleveland Guardians High-A Affiliate, where you can enjoy an ice-cold beer, popcorn and a hot dog while watching the next Jose Ramirez or Shane Bieber! The Captains play 66 home games from April through September with tickets starting at around $12 each. Looking for a FULL day of baseball? Check out the Cleveland Guardians schedule and do a Cleveland baseball double header by catching an afternoon Guardians game at Progressive Field in downtown Cleveland and then taking the short 20-25 minute drive to catch a Captains night game! Before you go…check out the Captains’ promotional schedule to plan your trip around games with giveaways (bobbleheads anyone?!) or post-game fireworks!

Big Fish, Big Pond

Whether you’re a seasoned fisherman or have never dropped a line in the water, Lake Erie’s fishing scene is as good as it’s ever been. Lake Erie is the walleye capital of the world, for good reason, and you and your buddies won’t get skunked on your fishing trip here in Lake County. If you have your own boat, public boat launches at the Mentor Lagoons Marina and Fairport Harbor Port Authority can handle most size boats or if you have a smaller boat check out the launch at Grand River Landing Park. Don’t have a boat? That’s ok too because there are plenty of experienced and certified charter boat captains here in Lake County. Start your charter search at Eyes Ready Charters, Top Flight Sport Fishing or Monkey Sea Fishing Charters. Not a fisherman but want to get out on the Lake? Check out JEO Sailing for a unique and memorable experience on the water!

Pro Tip - Long day on your bro-cation? Head over to Pulpo Beer Company to try a variety of in-house, unique Latin inspired brews!
